HOW DO I BECOME A BUTEYKO TEACHER?

The Buteyko Breathing Technique (BBT) is so effective that it is recommended in the 2011 British Guideline on the Management of Asthma1 to help control asthma symptoms such as breathlessness.

Teaching BBT to a Breathe Easy group

Teaching BBT one to one

The first step

The first step to becoming a BBT teacher is to complete the Buteyko Breathing Association Adult Teaching module. To be eligible for this module you need a degree (or equivalent) qualification in a health care profession, for example the following qualifications are suitable BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Medical Herbalism, Chiropractic and Nursing. To check if your qualification is acceptable please email us.

Small class size

The face to face teaching course is limited to a maximum of 15 trainees to ensure proper training by  our tutors who are experienced Buteyko teachers. To see the dates and locations of upcoming courses visit the module booking page.

Qualification

Once you have completed the Adult Training module you are qualified to teach BBT to adults and will be invited to join the Buteyko Breathing Association.

On completion of the Adult Teaching  module two additional modules are available for study; the Child Training module and the Advanced Training module.

The BBT training modules are designed to provide health professionals with the opportunity to complete a course of study that will equip them with the knowledge and experience to practise BBT alongside their current practice.  The modules offer a consideration of the theory, analysis of the practice and critical appraisal of the evidence base of the BBT. They also ensure an appreciation of, and an adherence to, the contra-indications and precautions for the application of the technique.
